2003 - Petrobras, Barracuda FPSO, Brazil
Summary
The Barracuda Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel was a key asset in Petrobras’ offshore oil production, designed to process and store crude oil from deepwater fields. Given its offshore location, ensuring reliability and safety was paramount.
Challanges
The FPSO’s remote offshore operations meant that maintenance had to be carefully planned, as access to spare parts and repair crews was limited. Additionally, ensuring the safety and functionality of processing equipment under extreme marine conditions was crucial.
Solution
Conducted RAM analysis to assess system availability and optimize spare parts management.
Applied failure mode and effects criticality analysis (FMECA) to prioritize maintenance for key process equipment.
Developed risk-based inspection (RBI) plans to prevent corrosion and degradation of offshore structures.
Implemented condition monitoring technologies to track the performance of rotating and static equipment.
