Summary
The Al Zour Refinery is one of the largest refining projects in the Middle East, designed to increase Kuwait’s refining capacity and produce low-sulfur fuel oil. The project required the integration of multiple process units while maintaining high reliability and safety standards.
Challanges
Managing the complexity of a mega-refinery project with numerous interdependent process units. Ensuring compliance with international safety and reliability standards. Reducing potential downtime risks associated with high-pressure and high-temperature processes.
Solution
Conducted an in-depth RAM analysis to optimize refinery uptime and ensure process reliability.
Developed a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) framework, allowing proactive maintenance scheduling based on risk assessments.
Led LOPA and SIL verification workshops to validate safety instrumented systems (SIS) in compliance with IEC 61511.
Provided a spare parts optimization strategy, ensuring critical components were available while minimizing excess inventory.
